A Guide for the Student on the Ways and Means of the Warg and the Stalking of Prey

Video: The Sweet Spot

I came across this video today and even though it is just 30 sec long and contains little real action it is actually a good example of how not to escape from a fight gone wrong. The setup is pretty simple; a few wargs are attacking a few freeps when a Warden rides in and joins the party. The Warden immediately begins attacking one of the wargs. The warg continues his attack, no doubt hoping to get the kill, but shortly feels the pressure and decides to make his escape by using Sprint. Unfortunately he had left it too late and the Warden stuck a javelin in his back as he fled, which finished him off.

The point here is to find your ‘sweet spot’. This is the point in a fight where you know you can’t get the kill and have just enough morale left to be able to escape and live to fight another day. If you go past that sweet spot then frankly it isn’t worth burning either Disappear or Sprint because you likely won’t make it. Better to just take the death and retreat with your cooldowns intact ready for the next fight.

The ‘sweet spot’ will be different for each fight because each fight is different. It takes practice, but eventually you learn to recognise when you have enough juice left to get out of there. It’s at that point that you have to decide whether you can keep going and potentially get the kill or whether to flee. If you keep going past that point then save your cooldowns because they probably aren’t going to help you.
